I don’t want it, but I’m kind of impressed. I’ve never seen any A-Body with paint that looked so shiny.

I don’t think they were that shiny when new.

I love immaculate versions of cars no one ever cared about.

I totally agree. Things don’t rust too bad here so luckily there’s a decent amount of weirdly nice boring cars.

Kinja'd!!!

It’s not immaculate, but I saw this today, and I have no idea the last time I saw a Plymouth Horizon in even decent shape.

That’s a heck of a find there! $1400 really isn’t too bad a price either. With 200k on the clock I’m just going to assume it has the 3.1 and not the 2.5 bone shaker.

My grandmother had a new 6000STE back in the day. Said it was a great car and surprisingly sporty, but like many American cars of the time it ran out of puff around 85-90mph.

I still see Cutlass Cieras all the time, so they must’ve done some things right with that platform

It wasn’t. When new, it would’ve been lucky to have all the body panels end up being the same shade of black. It only has two minor electrical faults, too. For a GM car of that era, that is damn impressive. It probably also had more electrical faults when it rolled off the assembly line.

They were. The 6000 was one of the rare cars ‘80s GM pretty much got right.

So long as you didn’t get one with an Iron Duke underhood, that is.

I just remember them through the 80's as being one of the most boring vehicles produced, with the worst engine choices available from the general. Quality control wasn’t exactly job #1...

Everything in the ‘80s was boring.

The first car we had in the family that I can remember growing up was one of these in white in wagon form with a beige interior. I don’t remember it well as I was fairly young, but I do remember seeing it the morning after my father had hit ice, spun out and totalled it. He drove it home, but the panels were dented...the front bumper was in the back seat...the headlights were misaligned. Poor thing. It may not have been a great car, and I may not like American stuff as much in general, but it’s always sad seeing ‘your’ car in ‘pain.’

I want to know who designed that car, put down their pencil, and said “I am proud to put my name on this”.....

I love it.

I have an affinity for malaise-era GM stuff.

The all-wheel-drive 6000s are getting really, really rare and are actually rising in value somewhat.

My dad had three of those in a row. A blue 84(?) LE, a silver 86 STE, and a maroon 88 STE. They were actually really good cars, but they ate transmissions.

I saw one of those for sale for $400 several months ago. I almost bought it, but it sold quickly

Ask the same question about the 2016 Prius. It’s the ugliest vehicle I’ve ever laid my eyes on. Who designed that and said “I am proud of my work designing this Prius!” Absolutely none of the lines work- and most styling ques are done to its detriment. It actually took me weeks to get used to looking at it for more than 10 seconds at a time (its hideous styling destroyed my eyes if looking at it for longer than 10 seconds). I think I can do it now, but wouldn’t want to.

I think the bigger surprise here is, no signs of clearcoat failure which appears on every single GM car of at least 10 years old (yes, that includes my Solstice.).

Because of this right?

I think I like this, in a weird retrofuturistic way.
